Scavenger Angels

Terra This is a delightful album that pays homage to some severely under-appreciated and wonderful creatures. It does so with music that glides beautifully to smooth heights just as easily as it lurches along, menacing and dark - just like its subjects. Favorite track: Pecking Order.

about

"Scavenger Angels" plays like a book of short stories, at the heart of which lies the protagonist: the vulture. Each track approaches the EP's theme with unique and poetic consideration; and, together, they form a tapestry that pays equal homage to the ominous, winged scavenger as it does to those who walk below it.

Track Name: Ugly
"Ugly", am I? Alright, but I think you've got me wrong.

"A nuisance winged rat". "An omen of black". "A terror to take aim at". You want to send me back to hell.

Protecting your piles that are collecting for miles as you sail to the islands to hold the sun that's gonna swallow us all.

I'm the coal colored savior of the carrion prayers. I'm the Christ of the cleaners and you hide in the graves with your dead.

"Ugly," am I? Alright, but I think you've got me wrong.
Track Name: Black and Silver
There's a buzzard circling the house where my brother's baby girl was born. I'm not sure what that means anymore.
There's a buzzard circling the house where the story goes I came about.
I guess that means that I got out.

Take me over to the dead things. All the rotting smells the wind does bring. Take me over to the dead things so I can see it all.

I'm a vulture standing on the shore. I don't know who lives here anymore.
My belly's filled with meat picked up off the road. My belly's full of meat.
I've got wings of black and silver clothes, but I growl and hiss when you get close. I love the sun and everyone down below.
Track Name: Pecking Order
All the dead are underground.
The roads are marred with moving metal.
Lead has brought my venue down.
I'm growing weak with a living hunger.

The ground is warm, dry, and long.
As I approach, you shudder in fear of...
I swallow all my sadness down.
I breath it in, I'm vicious now.
Track Name: Wide Wings of Love
All the patterns we weaved in the wind will serve to remind
of the nights with only you and the moon on my mind.
I help my head so high when I hoped you were watching.
I was flying higher then; there was no one who could stop me.

Now it's time I ride the wind down to South Florida
where they treat me as if I was not worthy of the sky.
It's lonely out there, but the warmth brings me some kind of comfort
When the springtime hits, I'll come looking for you in another

Just give me a thermal and I'll take over the world.
Give me the song of the sun on my back and I'll be alright.
Just give me a thermal and a clear, cloudless day.
Give me the rays of the sun on my back and I'll be okay.

When the fledglings spread their wings they're as wide as the ocean.
That vision grows small as I fly off free of devotion.
I'm a child of the wind and a mother in the months when it thunders.
I was a lover to you and I'll be a lover to others.

Just give me a thermal and I'll take over the world.
Give me the song of the sun on my back and I'll be alright.
Just give me a thermal and a clear, cloudless day.
Give me the rays of the sun on my back and I'll be okay.
Track Name: Sky Burial
As soon as my eyes grow distant,
and you kiss my lips goodbye,
will you take me out to the quite,
and lay my limbs on the hillside.

Watch them descend from the heavens,
the scavenger angels arrive,
with a eulogy sung out in hisses,
a burial out in the sky.

Use my blood to lift you up, but leave my bones for a xylophone
Sky carry me, Sky bury me

Now my eyes see the distance,
where the weight on my feet was the limit.
I dance with wind on my shoulders,
and spend my days watching over

I'll use your blood to lift me up. You can use your bones how ever you want.
Sky carried me, Sky buried me.
